Delphi, Kastoria and Pogradec
We only had 4 days to get from the Peloponnese to Durres, Albania so we made some quick stops at a few places we wanted to see on the way.
Ancient Delphi
We’ve now visited so many ancient Greek cities that we just had to go to Delphi as well. I visited here 30 years ago and was excited to go back and see if it was as great as I remembered. It didn’t disappoint. C said that it was by far his favourite ancient city that we’ve visited in either Greece or Turkey.
There was a great museum there explaining a lot of myths and the items that they excavated from the site. It’s really cool to walk around the city and think about the Oracle being here and how many rulers and important people came here from all over to visit the Oracle.

Kastoria
This was cute town on a lake near the Albania border. We got the feeling that it is more about domestic tourism as opposed to international tourism. Not many people there spoke English.

We remembered that alcohol was very expensive in Albania (especially wine), so in the morning of the day we were crossing the border, we stopped at Lidl and stocked up to our allowed limits. We then had lunch on a bench by the river before crossing into Albania.

Pogradec
We originally wanted to go to Ohrid on the Macedonian side of Lake Ohrid, which we heard was lovely. But alas, we didn’t have time. So, we went to Pogradec on the Albanian side of Lake Ohrid. This was a nice tourist city with lots of activity. We had a great little apartment right in the center of town with private, gated parking!

Next stop is Durres, to catch up with friends.
