Rachi Artas & Nafpaktos, Greece

On our way from Albania to the Peloponnese, we made two stops for a couple of nights each.

Rachi Artas

This was a very small town (very, very small) on the outskirts of the city of Artas. The owner of our apartment also owned the cafe downstairs along with his sister and parents. Coincidentally, our host was also born in Melbourne, Australia and we received free drinks from the cafe which was a plus! This town could not have had more than about 100 people living in it, but there were about 4 cafes – the one downstairs was the largest. We were just across from the town square and there were storks everywhere.

Koronisia

One day we took a drive along a long causeway in the Ambracian Gulf to the island town of Koronisia.

Arta

We also did a very quick visit to the city of Arta. Unfortunately, there was no parking to be found anywhere in the city and the streets were very narrow. So, we did a drive-by of the castle, ancient bridge and various statues.

Nafpaktos

This was an interesting and historical town. It was an important port and fortification for the Venetians to control the entrance to the Gulf of Corinth. The Venetian port was particularly impressive as was the castle up on top of the hill and the Ottoman baths.
