Zlatibor, Serbia

We spent a month in this ski town catching up with friends. We joined 6 other families that we met along the way (mostly in Budapest) and spent the month taking art classes, having coffees, playing pickelball, late nights playing poker and sitting around a campfire singing along to the guitar and piano, and just generally having a lot of fun with friends.

Zlatibor is a small resort town in the mountains so it was a cool relief from the heat we had in Bucharest. We were located on the edge of town but it was only a 20 – 25 minute walk down the hill to the center of town. All 7 families were located within a 5 minute walk from each other so the kids could all run back and forth for play sessions. The downtown was pretty cute with an artificial lake with fountains (they even did an evening sounds and light fountain show). There were lots of restaurants and cafes and boutique shops.

Area Sightseeing

We also spent 1 day out sightseeing. We visited a cave, an ‘old village’ (older houses from other villages moved into one village area to create an outdoor museum), and a waterfall.

Stopic Cave:

This cave was nicer than expected and followed the trail of a waterfall. After several months of rain, this cave would be fabulous with all the pools filled. As it was, the pools were empty but the waterfall was running.

Sirogojno outdoor village museum:

Gostilje waterfall:

This waterfall was actually several waterfalls and cascades as it fell down various levels of terrain.

Next stop: Athens – but we’ll spend a week getting there.
