Madrid, Toledo, Aranjuez

We spent a week in Aranjuez. During this time, we took some day trips to Madrid and Toledo.
Aranjuez
We decided to stay in the city of Aranjuez because of its location between Madrid and Toledo. The town of Aranjuez isn’t much to write about, but it has a nice royal palace and tons of large gardens that you could walk in for hours.

Madrid
The day we went to Madrid, there was a special event at the Royal Palace. The King was welcoming new Ambassadors from Ghana, Slovenia, France, Mongolia, Nepal, and Rwanda. Each diplomat was escorted by a procession of horses through the Plaza Mayor and into the Royal Palace where a large military band played each country’s national anthem. We first saw them in the Plaza Mayor, and then stayed and watched the arrival of 2 of the diplomats.

We spent several hours walking all over Madrid. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to explore any museums, but we enjoyed our city explorations anyway.

Toledo
We spent a day exploring Toledo which we really enjoyed. It was fun to walk all around the old, narrow windy streets and visit various old buildings, churches and mosques.
