A Kid’s View – Ningaloo Coast

While we were in Exmouth we took a few weekends away to the Ningaloo Coast. The first few times we went to Cape Range NP. Then we went to Coral Bay.

Cape Range

Cape Range NP was a great place to cool our heels while getting away from stressful work and school. There’s not much to do in Cape Range except relax, snorkel and fish. Cape Range has some beautiful campsites such as Mesa and Osprey Bay. It’s also got beautiful beaches and gorges.

The ocean not your thing? You can always go to Yardie Creek and canoe while seeing the gorge, or you can do some four-wheel driving down the beach from Yardie Creek to Coral Bay.

Coral Bay

One weekend we went to Coral Bay. Coral Bay is great for snorkelling and for whale sharks, manta rays and whales. Coral Bay has beautiful snorkelling right off the beach and even more impressive snorkelling in the bay. On our third day there we went on a manta ray tour. It consisted of three stops: the first stop was the best snorkel spot ever where we saw reef sharks, the second stop which wasn’t that great but we saw a massive stingray and the third stop with the manta-rays. The manta rays were fast but when they went to the cleaning station they slowed down. We went swimming with them for 1 hour and my sister wanted to do it for longer. One of the passengers had a camera and she was very nice. She even let us have a photo of me with the manta ray! One of the deckhands was Dutch and because it was the sixth we sang some Dutch Sinterklaas songs!
