Jaisalmer is the Golden City. It is on the far western side of Rajistan near the Pakistan border. It is bordered on all sides by the desert. Our first 2 nights, we stayed with a family in a small village in the desert about 17 km north-east of Jaisalmer. While there, we went on a camel ride and ate in the sand dunes. I won’t discuss it in this page because I think the C covered it pretty well in his blog Jaisalmer Desert<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After our stay in the desert, we stayed for 3 nights in the town. We splashed out a bit and stayed at a nice hotel with a swimming pool. It felt so good to go for a swim after our days in the desert and wash off all that sand!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Town and Fort<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The town has a lot of stunning buildings and havelis. They are intricately carved in the sandstone they are made out of. There is also a large fort on the hill dominating the town. The fort is really like a separate town itself with tonnes of hotels, restaurants and shops located within the fort complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The other attraction in town is the lake. The lake area had some nice buildings and a gate, but unfortunately, the banks were completely covered in trash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next stop: Bikaner – our last city we’ll visit in India. The cow count from Jaisalmer to Bikaner was: 611 cows and 33 camels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
